Cilegon in Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa Period (Years 1651-1672)
In the Year 1651 Cilegon is a small village under the rule of the kingdom of Banten in the Kingdom of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (Th. 1651-1672).
At that time Cilegon area still a lot of marshland that has not been inhabited. But since the golden era under the Sultan of Banten Kingdom Ageng Tirtayasa done opening in Serang and Cilegon area which is used as rice fields. Since then many immigrants who settled in Cilegon Cilegon so that society is heterogeneous.

On July 9, 1888 Date happen peak people's resistance to Dutch colonial Cilegon led by KH. Wasid known as the rebellion Geger Cilegon. Rebellion Geger Cilegon inspire people's struggle to liberate the Dutch colonial oppression and escape from starvation due to forced cultivation at that time.
Cilegon in The Year 1924
In the Year 1924, in Cilegon talah Kewedanaan no college-based education is a prominent Islamic university of Al-Khaeriyah and Madrasah Al-Jauharotunnakiyah Cibeber.

Cilegon Kewedanaan territory covers 3 (three) districts namely Cilegon District, District and Sub Pulomerak Bojonegara.

Based on Government Regulation No. 40 of 1986 dated 17 September 1986 into the City Administrative Kewedanaan Cilegon Cilegon and inaugurated by the Minister of the Interior on July 20, 1987, includes 3 (three) districts namely Sub Cilegon, Pulomerak, and Ciwandan and coupled with the appointment by the Governor Walikotatif Head of the Provincial West Java.
Based on Government Regulation No. 3 of 1992 on January 11, 1992 divided into Sub District of Cilegon Cilegon and Cibeber. So the City of Cilegon include 4 (four) districts namely Cilegon, Cibeber, Pulomerak and Ciwandan.
Being Cilegon Municipality, 1999
City of Cilegon, which is part of the Serang region in its development as an industrial city grows for the western part of West Java. In the city of Cilegon there are now medium and heavy industries in regional and national capacities. Cilegon is also a traffic lane between Java and Sumatra with Merak ferry port. All this makes its function Cilegon is growing, as well as the industrial city as well as city transit, trade and services.
Looking at Cilegon very strategic position in terms of political, social, cultural, and defense, then to further improve the effectiveness and efficiency of governance, development and implementation services to the community, the City of Cilegon formed into a Level II Regional Municipality pursuant to Act No. 15 Year 1999 (State Gazette of 3828) dated 20 April 1999 which was inaugurated by the Minister of Home Affairs Syarwan Hamid on April 27, 1999, and coupled with the appointment of the acting Mayor of the Regional Level II Cilegon H. Tb. Riva'i Halir.
Being Cilegon
Based on Law Number 22, 1999 years on Regional Government (State Gazette Year 1999 Number 60, Supplementary State Gazette Number 3839), hence the mention of the Regional Municipality became Level II Cilegon Cilegon. On September 4, 1999 House of Representatives (DPRD) Cilegon inaugurated, that their membership is based on the General Election of 1999, with Chairman DPRD Cilegon H. Zaidan Riva'i.
On February 28, 2000 made a definitive selection of Mayor by the Regional Representatives Council Cilegon in democracy and was elected the first Mayor of the City of Cilegon is H. Tb. Aat Syafa'at accompanied by Vice Mayor Cilegon namely H. Djoko Munandar. On behalf of the Minister of the Interior, the Governor of West Java, HR Nuriana Cilegon Mayor officially inaugurated on April 7, 2000 year.
In the journey, Vice Mayor of Cilegon, Dr. Djoko Munandar, M. Eng ran for governor of Banten, and was elected Governor of Banten. Thus, the position of Vice Mayor Cilegon be empty.
Opportunities provided by Law no. 22 of 1999 on Regional Government has given more freedom for the city of Cilegon to realize the ideals of society.
On June 5, 2005, Cilegon community held a celebration of democracy to choose directly the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Implementation of the Regional Head Election running safely, smoothly and under control. On June 10, 2005, the Election Commission set a pair of H. Cilegon Tb. Aat Syafa'at, S. Sos, M. Si, and Drs. H. Ridwan Rusli, M. Si as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Cilegon period from 2005 to 2010. On July 20, 2005, the pair H. Tb. Aat Syafa'at, S. Sos, M. Si, and Drs. H. Ridwan Rusli, M. Si sworn in as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Cilegon, Banten Governor Dr. H. Djoko Munandar, M. Eng on behalf of the Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
